Prior to this role, Hur held the position of Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General within the U.S. Department of Justice.

Born in New York City in 1973 to South Korean parents, Hur’s upbringing in Los Angeles, California shaped his educational journey. He studied English and American literature at Harvard University, graduating magna cum laude in 1995. His academic pursuits continued with graduate study in philosophy at King’s College, Cambridge, where he received first-class honors. Later, he attended Stanford Law School, earning his Juris Doctor degree and membership in the Order of the Coif.

As an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Maryland, he prosecuted cases related to gang violence, drug trafficking, firearms offenses, and white-collar crimes. Additionally, Hur worked as a partner at King & Spalding in Washington, D.C., focusing on government investigations and complex litigation.
